Lt. Robert Lowcay

Lieutenant Robert Lowcay was born in 1786, and died in 1853 in Plymouth, Devon, England. He married Mary Anne Woodnut on 4th June 1816 at St Mary's, Portsea, Hampshire, England.

He followed his father and brothers into the Royal Navy on 13th January, 1806. He served on a series of ships, including the sloop Favourite, commanded by his brother Capt Henry Lowcay.

He served on the “Sparrow” from 1837, and became Senior Lieutenant in 1841.

He was Naval Officer in Charge of the Falkland Islands 1838 - 1839

He was a competent artist, and his watercolour “View of the Harbour of Port Louis - Berkley Sound, East Falkland” is housed at the National Maritime Museum.
