The French branch of the Lowcay family is descended from Henry Lawrence Lowcay. He was born in 1816 near Bideford, Devon, England. He married Mary Durell Anley in 1845 at St. Helier, Jersey. He was appointed Professor of Naval Architecture at Cherbourg, France, and died there in 1884.
There were five children, one of who (Henry Frederick) moved to Australia.
Henry Lawrence's grandson, Henry Lowcay was awarded the Legion of honour, Military Cross, for service in WWI and WWII.
Descendants are resident in France.
