New Zealand Branches

Two related branches of the Lowcay family are in New Zealand.

One is descended from Harry Lowcay, who was born in Clapham, London, England, on 22nd September 1905.

The other is descended from William Lowcay, who was Harry’s uncle. He left London for Melbourne, Australia, in 1882. After a short stay, he arrived in Dunedin, New Zealand, on 6th December, 1882. After a time working for the Bank of Australia, he joined the "New Zealand Armed Constabulary Force" and served in that force, which was subsequently re-organised as the "New Zealand Permanent Militia".

He was appointed a Civilian Clerk in the Defence Office in Wellington, and died in December, 1902 after contracting influenza, possibly caught from returning soldiers, for whom he was arranging rehabilitation.

Descendants of both branches are resident in New Zealand.
